Forty ASEAN students studying at 19 universities in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region have recently been awarded scholarships and were invited to participate in an exchange seminar in Guangxi's capital city, Nanning.

The seminar was hosted by the Guangxi Committee of the Communist Youth League and Guangxi Youth Federation. Foreign student representatives from ASEAN countries, such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, shared their respective study and living conditions in Guangxi.

Leaders of the Guangxi Committee of the Communist Youth League shared the achievements of Guangxi-ASEAN youth exchanges and expressed hope that the representatives of foreign students will contribute to the upgrading of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership.

Guangxi is geographically close to ASEAN countries, and is one of the top places for students from ASEAN countries to study abroad. At present, Guangxi has more than 20 universities and colleges that recruit students from ASEAN countries, and has established official language majors of ASEAN countries. Nearly 10,000 ASEAN students are studying in Guangxi, making it one of the regions with the largest number of foreign students from Southeast Asian countries in China.

To further promote youth exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, and to encourage more young people from ASEAN countries to study in Guangxi, the Guangxi Committee of the Communist Youth League and Guangxi Youth Federation established the Scholarship for ASEAN Students in Guangxi in 2011. Since then,  215 students from ASEAN countries have received this award.
