The expansion project of the Yongwu branch of the People's Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, which is modeled after Beijing's Xiaotangshan Hospital that was built to treat severe infections during the 2003 SARS outbreak, was completed and handed over to medical staff on Feb 8.

The 96-bed Yongwu hospital is expected to relieve the pressure faced by designated hospitals for treating coronavirus patients in Guangxi, as well as improve the ability and level of treatment.

More than 1,000 workers have implemented 24-hour shift operations since Feb 1, and completed the main construction of the project within eight days.

In order to better isolate the virus, the hospital is divided into a polluted area, a semi-polluted area, and a clean area,. Three different channels for medical staff, patients, and goods were also set up.

In addition to the necessary medical facilities, each unit has been equipped with a cabinet that enables medical staff to deliver daily necessities or medical products without the need to enter patient rooms, preventing cross infection. The hospital is also equipped with a special sewage treatment emergency system to avoid secondary pollution.

In the future, Guangxi will also build more specialized hospitals for the treatment of patients infected by the novel coronavirus in cities like Beihai, Yulin, Guilin, Wuzhou, Liuzhou, and Baise.
