The Guangxi section of the Yulin-Zhanjiang Expressway was officially opened to traffic on June 30, opening up a new channel for southeast Guangxi to connect with southern Guangdong province.

Starting from Mapo town, Luchuan county, Yulin and ending in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, the expressway spans a total length of 74.75 kilometers and has a total investment of about 7.02 billion yuan ($993.34 million). It is a two-way four-lane expressway with a design speed of 120 km per hour and has six toll stations in total.

The Guangxi section of the Yulin-Zhanjiang Expressway is an important link of Guangxi's expressway network. Invested in and constructed by Yulin-Zhanjiang Expressway Development Co of the China Communication Construction Company's Guangxi branch, it is the first expressway project in Guangxi implemented in the PPP (public-private partnership) mode, which is the public-private cooperation mode between the government and private enterprises.

The Guangdong section of the expressway is expected to open to traffic in August this year. After the whole line of the expressway is connected, the time to travel from Yulin to Zhanjiang will be shortened to 1.5 hours. It will further accelerate Guangxi's pace of eastern integration with Guangdong, strengthen economic exchanges between Yulin and Zhanjiang, as well as promote economic development and cooperation between Guangdong and Guangxi.
