The Firecracker Dragon Festival, celebrated in Fuchuan Yao autonomous county in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, is a spectacle that attracts thousands of tourists during Spring Festival.
The annual event lasts from the 10th day of the first month of the Lunar New Year to the Lantern Festival. It is an original local festival celebrated by Yao ethnic people and has been inscribed in the region's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
With a history of 400 years, the festival consists of various cultural activities, such as a lantern show and a dragon dance performance.
While the dragon dance is marching on the street, residents and visitors light firecrackers and throw at the dragon lanterns. The more firecrackers that blow up, the more cheerful the bare-chested performers become.
