A working meeting on the joint prevention and control project of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) in border areas of China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Vietnam was held both online and on-site in Fangchenggang, Guangxi on Sept 9.

As part of the 18th China-ASEAN Expo, the meeting was held by the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and gathered around 120 attendees from both China and Vietnam.

A memorandum of cooperation was signed among the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the health departments of four Vietnamese provinces, namely Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Quang Ninh and Lang Son during the meeting.

Cooperation in areas spanning the prevention and control of major infectious diseases, the health industry in border areas, medical assistance, traditional medicine and women's and children's health will be enhanced.

The joint prevention and control project of AIDS is an important part of the Lancang-Mekong River Basin infectious disease prevention and control project and was initiated in 2008.
