The total value of goods transported by the China-Laos Railway has exceeded 100 million yuan (about $15.7 million) as of Wednesday, when an international freight train loaded with 11 containers of goods headed for Laos from Kunming, the capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province.
The China-Laos Railway started operation on December 3, 2021. By Wednesday, a total of 31 inbound and outbound freight trains on the railway had been released by customs authorities in Kunming after inspection, with a total import and export volume of 17,100 tons.
Goods on these trains covered natural rubber, fertilizer, iron ore, vegetables, fruits, steel, etc., valued at about 107 million yuan.
The China-Laos Railway is a landmark project of the Belt and Road cooperation between China and Laos. It will boost the high-quality economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between China and Laos, as well as among countries and regions along the Trans-Asian Railway.
