The city of Guilin in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has launched an integrated conservation and restoration project on the Lijiang River basin to protect its ecological environment.

Villagers along the Lijiang River who used to rely on farming and fishing to make a living have changed their careers to the tourism industry.

In Xingping Township of Yangshuo County, Guilin City, fishermen have started to work as models for tourists. They also rent fishing tools such as nets, lamps, and bamboo rafts to tourists for taking photographs.
