Another CCTV news anchor joined hands with a celebrity on Sunday to promote Hubei agri produce during a live-stream targeting the province once hardest hit by the novel coronavirus.
The names of CCTV news hostess Ouyang Xiadan (homophonic to "place an order") and Hong Kong actor Wong Cho Lam (homophonic to "stop") are combined to form a catchline: "No one could stop me from placing an order (for Hubei farm products)."
The live-stream attracted a lot of attention, including from sales influencers on short video platform Kuaishou as well as two Chinese actresses.
Local favorite "reganmian", or "hot dry noodles" in Wuhan, as well as "wolong rice crust" were sold out soon after the promotion aired.
On April 6, a live-stream session jointly hosted by CCTV news anchor Zhu Guangquan and celebrity Li Jiaqi on Taobao Live sold 16 products from Hubei and attracted 15.45 million visitors and about 660,000 orders, generating a total turnover of nearly 23 million yuan.
Lotus root, tea, duck neck, lobster, mushrooms, and rice wine are just a sampling of the 16 products sold out within seconds after being introduced by both hosts.
Besides the live-stream boost, some enterprises announced they too would assist recovery of Hubei's economy.
Alibaba reached a package deal with Hubei to promote local sales of agricultural goods while Taobao launched a special service to help local farmers.
JD.com, in turn, announced an investment of at least 6 billion yuan in Hubei over the next three years.
