A three-year action plan for the construction of the Beibu Gulf in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has recently come into effect, local officials announced on Nov 12.

Beibu Gulf's infrastructure and service industries have both achieved leapfrog development in the past three years and by 2023, the Beibu Gulf will launch 11 new routes to destinations such as ASEAN countries, Japan and South Korea with an additional throughput capacity of 90 million metric tons.

The Beibu Gulf will also strengthen its coordinated development with Hong Kong and Singapore to establish a regional international shipping group.

Guangxi will devote efforts to strengthening cooperation between the Beibu Gulf and the Pearl River-Xijiang River Economic Belt to launch joint measures to reduce logistics costs.

Depending on the development of China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park and Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park, the Beibu Gulf will keep cooperating with Kuantan Port along cross-border industrial and supply chains spanning sectors such as the automobile industry, the chemical industry and equipment manufacturing as well as the cross-border processing trade industrial chain for palm oil, birds' nests, rubber, and tropical fruits.

The action plan also put forward that Guangxi will deepen China-ASEAN port city cooperation under the RCEP framework, and promote more ASEAN ports to join the China-ASEAN port city cooperation network.
