Wuying Village suffers from harsh environment and low agricultural yields, making it one of the most impoverished counties in Guangxi.
In the summer of 2020, Lan Shengkui, a retired agricultural expert in variety improvement from Liuzhou Agricultural Science Institute, has come up with red sorghum, a crop that has strong tolerance to drought and barren soil, and provided it to farmers in Wuying Village.
The red sorghum turned out to reap bumper harvest, and the planting scale will be further expanded in 2021 to help local farmers increase their income.
