A metaverse technology and industrial development conference took place in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Sept 8, as well as a promotion fair of Guangxi's digital economic industrial chain.

The event was jointly held by the Guilin municipal people's government, the Big Data Development Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the Communications Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Experts, scholars, and guests from both home and abroad were invited to deliver keynote lectures, as well as to participate in theme forums, discussing the pressing issues and development trends of metaverse technology and industries.

Xu Shaochuan, vice chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said that Guangxi has attached great importance to the development of the digital economy, especially the application and promotion of new-generation data technologies represented by the metaverse.

Xu expressed hope that Guangxi will grasp development opportunities brought by the metaverse, as well as give full play to its advantages of being close to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and being a demonstrative area of the RCEP, striving to accelerate the scenario application and industrial development of the metaverse.

Li Chu, mayor of Guilin, said that the city is one of Guangxi's first batch of digital economy demonstration zones. He added that Guilin has cultivated a bevy of new generation information technology innovation and industrial application projects featuring artificial intelligence, big data, the internet of things, as well as cloud computing.
